There is a question I suppose every Christian, or should I say true believer, will encounter in their walk with Christ. There is always a certain degree of doubt that will arise in our thoughts as we try to live and walk according to the Bible. What we believe is closely tied to our conviction of Faith. So, it would stand to reason that we will deal with doubts. It is the presence and persistence of these doubts may cause us to feel disconnected from Christ.
Why It This Happening?
There is a story told in scripture that reveals the struggle of a father who believes yet at the same time needed Jesus to help him in his unbelief.
Mark 9:24 states, “Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
How is it that we can believe in God and at the same time fail to trust Him during trying situations?
Does the cry out to address our unbelief hinder our walk with God?
This will always be an interesting yet common question for any believer. We try to do the will of God but sometimes struggle with the issue of really believing God, especially when a crisis arises or circumstances happen that we don’t understand.
Now comes the ultimate question…Do I Believe?
There are a few things that a believer must be aware of in their walk with Jesus. Satan will use any opportunity to cast unbelief in our minds. That’s what he does and he does it well. It’s when we, as believers, try to do too much on our own and not allow God to lead us. Our FAITH is not built on our works or what we can interpret with our intellect. This is another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan). The more we question what and how to believe, the more Satan takes advantage of the opportunity.
Did the father in Mark forget about the fact that he believes in God? No, he didn’t ….he just struggled with the situation of his son not receiving the expected healing he needed. Help my unbelief! He believed but there was still a part of the whole situation that he wanted help with his Faith.
Believing is more than just talking about living for Christ. We must understand that to be a true believer, we must know without a doubt certain things about our salvation…
Why was it necessary for Christ to die for our sins?
Why He offered us the gift of salvation?
Do we know what salvation is all about?
Do we understand the importane of never losing HOPE in God?
Believers are tested daily as to their foundational beliefs. Today’s world creates an even greater test. Our churches are closed down, fellowship among believes has deteriorated. One would wonder if this pandemic came about to test our faith. Will we hold on to God now that we are living in a dangerous time??
Let’s talk about salvation!! A good definition of salvation is “the deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.”
This definition says a lot about how our belief system develops its foundation within our lives. The questions come up again…Do We Believe? Although it is a personal question, it has a global effect. Today many are faced with this question even more than ever. Do We Believe now that we are amid a great pandemic (Covid 19)?
Certainly, this global virus had affected all of us, whether we know God or not! Look at it as one of those B.U.G.S… is it permitted by God to get our attention (believers)? Is it Satan?
There are certain things that we may never know but a believer must not allow the devastation of a world pandemic to altar their FAITH. This quickly becomes a tool for Satan to use. Even though we may not know the origin of such an occurrence, it shouldn’t shake our belief system to the point of giving up and not believing that God has it all in control.
Here again, is where Satan will use all of his tactics to stere a believer away from trusting God. It becomes one of those B.U.G.S. that lingers for the sole purpose of destroying everything in its path.
I am sure the time that we live in has distracted many of us from the basic foundation of our FAITH. The uncertainty of our times has become the center of our thought process. This is expected in life but our thought process as a believer is built on just that…believing in God and knowing that our security is in Him.
Do I Believe? We should not question it but rely on God’s direction to help us correct any shortcomings that shake our faith. God has always tested those who follow Him. Now is not the time to allow Satan to do what he does best…steal, kill, and destroy.
Ask yourself the question…Do I Believe? The answer lies in how much you rely on God and accept His grace as a gift that will always prove to be invaluable.
Again, ask yourself , Do I Believe?
The answer should always be YES!!!
