The DISCONNECT!!…B.U.G.S.

I don’t even know if this topic will hit home for some of us but it’s certainly worth trying. One important fact that we as believers in Christ must recognize and understand…whatever we are called to be in Christ, we must be just that. So what does that really mean? There is a definite need for us, believers in Christ, to act like and be just what God has called us to be in the body of Christ.

One deep concern that seems to come up frequently is the condition that some of our churches are experiencing. The condition that I am speaking of is the overwhelming lack of participation and concern for ministry.

Is it possible that the church may be suffering from some type of total burnout (as mentioned in another article, “Christian Burnout”)? A spiritual burnout that causes one to sort of shy away from doing the necessary steps to recover. Or maybe is just that the passion we once had has been depleted when it comes to our church service and ministry.

So WHY???

There is no time now to be laid back, unresponsive believers. Lacking the discipline and dedication to be true disciples of Christ. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be lazy, unconcerned or unresponsive to the needs of not only the ministry but also your spiritual walk. It appears there is an even more lack of follow through as disciples. Follow through on the assignment given to us in Matt. 28:19…

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

There is one thing for sure that the church today strives on and that is the fact that they know how to “DO CHURCH.” But maybe it is this type of behavior that has caused us, believers, to miss the true meaning of what God intended the church to be.

There seems to be a loss of vision among many church-going believers. This also affects the church ministry. There is a clear presence of “APATHY” …“TOTAL DISCONNECT” that has crept into the midst of our church fellowship.

“Apathy is defined as a lack of emotional responsiveness or lack of interest or concern.”

You can see where this word so appropriately defines signs of “DISCONNECT” in the church body.

Clearly, this BUG has made its way into the atmosphere of Godly believers. This is another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan). There is a lack of overall concern when its time to work in the ministry. The work that is set forth for us to accomplish in regards to achieving the true call to God’s purpose in our lives. There is a lack of desire to just roll up our sleeves and get to work on the task set before us. It seems that there is a “Somebody else can do it” or “That’s Not My Thing” syndrome” growing among the church body.

Satan’s trick is to hinder our efforts in carrying out God’s purpose. When there is no desire or we become distracted in serving God, the focus of any ministry will suffer in its development. The work will surely fade into the woodwork! Nothing moves, nothing grows, and nothing recovers when this state exists. You must understand that Satan’s (a thief) main objective is to kill, steal, and destroy.

“John 10:10 states …”The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.

Apathy can be a dangerous thing. The apathy that leads to “DISCONNECT” in the church. We must be always aware of things that creep into our walk with Christ. When we are feeling weary or distressed and just don’t have the energy to fight, beware “APATHY” or should I say ‘Spiritual APATHY” has set itself up to rule. This thing (BUG) will certainly cause disconnection with God. This is one of those B.U.G.S. that needs to be removed quickly.

Any disconnection from God can be deadly. When there is no light to guide you, darkness will prevail in every way it can. Where there is darkness, sin will easily grow.

Many times “APATHY(Disconnection) can set in when our focus is turned toward the things of this sinful world. Things that are a part of everyday life become more important. Simple things such as material possessions, entertainment, or climbing the ladder at work. Yes!!! We do need these things in our lives but they must not make them our first priority when walking with Christ. These things become secondary so that our focus as a believer can be turned toward the things of God.

This BUG…APATHYThe BIG DISCONNECT, has shown its face too many times in our churches today. When will we realized that it is a trick of the enemy!!

We have become distracted and blinded by the common things around us. The work of the ministry has grown dormant. It appears that working, caring, and praying for the ministry is too hard for us as believers. When we get tired, it shows in our participation at church. You could almost say that we are allowing Satan to rob us daily of the necessities of our faith.

So what’s the use in trying!! You may ask yourself this question from time to time when faced with the real issue of Apathy, Disconnection from God.

Look at how this BUG can affect us spiritually!

  • We grow weary easily and are not motivated to do anything
  • We know certain things must be done to help in ministry but we prefer someone else do it
  • We are always willing to surrender when it comes to stressful tests or trials
  • It becomes easy for us to find other things to do besides helping in the community outreach
  • We find it easier to complain than fix the issue at hand
  • We lose the desire to read or learn from the Word of God
  • Following Christ becomes more of a task than a joyous pleasure
  • There is a sense of not wanting to fight against Satan due to the feeling of defeat
  • Negativity becomes common
  • The desire to be that example of Christ living within you slowly fades
  • Unconcern is easily portrayed in trying issues
  • Serving others becomes harder to do because you feel its not your job
  • Prayer is not necessary like it once was
  • You become cold and hardened towards the things of God

This is only a list of some of the things that make come up when you are in a state of “Spiritual Apathy” or to say it better, “Spiritual Disconnection”.The danger here is that this state of mind can soon become sin.

Satan makes it an easy choice when you have fallen into the “SPIRIT OF SPIRITUAL APATHY”. He has made his way into your mind and has set up house. He slowly creeps in and justifies the presence of all those negative things that are going on around you as nothing. These things that should be addressed to keep them from playing havoc in your life are now ignored. This is a sure sign of Satan’s Grip!!

But let’s talk about another aspect of this BUG!!!

Maybe “Spiritual Apathy” or “Disconnection” has grown because of the lack of spiritual guidance. Anything will die when if it’s not taken care of properly. The church (Shepherd, or church leadership) also can play a role in “Spiritual Apathy” or The Disconnect”. Maybe the need to lead the sleep (Believers) in the right direction and teach them how and what to eat has grown stale and stagnant! This is something to consider when developing disciples for Christ. It is a spiritual walk that has to be developed. Sheep must be lead to water and then they will drink. If sheep are not being properly lead, then how can they properly drink what is needed daily.

“Spiritual Apathy” can infect everyone and everything in a church. We must be truly aware of the tactics Satan uses to blind and destroy the household of faith. There is no way to be effective for Christ when there is an infestation of APATHY in the house!! We must find it and destroy its presence. We must recover all that has been lost by the lack of concern, interest, or laziness.

The “Spirit Of Spiritual Apathy” is real!! It’s time now to call it out and destroy it.

The DISCONNECT is a result of this spirit. Let’s do something about it!!!
